Functional Perimenopause
Dietitian, Covered by Insurance
Certified menopause coaching specialist using advanced testing and the latest research to target muscle, metabolism, and microbiome, the three drivers of change in perimenopause and menopause. 95% of clients pay $0 out of pocket with insurance.
Declining estrogen changes how your body builds muscle, handles carbs, and supports your gut.
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) helps, but it can’t do it all. That’s where The Menopause Trifecta comes in.
Muscle: Protect lean muscle and your metabolism with
protein targets and timing built for perimenopause.
Metabolism: Steady your blood sugar and energy by addressing
insulin resistance early, even when labs look "normal."
Microbiome: Advanced gut testing shows how your body
processes estrogen, so your plan is based on your
labs, not guesswork.
What worked in your 30s doesn’t work anymore.
Hi, I'm Claire, MS, RD, IFNCP, CMCS
Functional Registered Dietitian and Certified Menopause Coaching Specialist
I became a dietitian because I believed healthcare could go deeper, beyond 15-minute appointments and symptom management, to the root causes of why people feel the way they do. Functional nutrition was always the goal.
Then I watched my peers, sharp, vibrant women in their 40s and 50s, start struggling in ways they couldn't explain. I added a Certified Menopause Coaching specialty because I saw exactly where functional nutrition could make the biggest difference.
Before opening my private practice full time, I worked as a clinical dietitian in general medicine at UCHealth, one of Colorado's leading hospital systems. That experience deepened my understanding of how metabolic disease, chronic illness, and hormonal changes show up in real patients, and reinforced why a root cause approach matters so much.
Because this care should be accessible to every woman who needs it, I accept most major insurance plans across AZ, CA, CO, CT, MA, MI, NJ, NY, TX, and VA.
When I am not working with my clients, you can find me spending quality time with my family, heading out to the slopes on a ski day, or on the tennis court.
As Heard on The Ezer Effect:
What Worked in Your 30s Stops Working in Your 40s
I joined Kristen Abell on The Ezer Effect for an in-depth conversation covering everything from blood sugar balance to gut health testing and why what worked in your 30s stops working in your 40s.
Supplements only work when they're personalized—the right form, the right dose, and the right combination for your unique biology. That's why I recommend them based on your lab results, not social media trends.
Every product in my dispensary is professional grade and third-party tested. I partner with Fullscript to source directly from trusted manufacturers, so you avoid counterfeit or improperly stored products common on major online marketplaces.
No guesswork. No wasted money on supplements that don't move the needle.
I know how hard it can be to prioritize balanced meals when life gets busy. That’s why I created simple, family-friendly recipes built on my 30/30 Framework: 30 grams of protein per meal and 30 grams of fiber per day—specifically designed for perimenopause and menopause.
Every recipe is quick to prep, requires no specialty ingredients, and fits seamlessly into real life.
Good food that actually supports your blood sugar, muscle, gut health, and daily energy.
Common Questions
-
Most likely, yes. I'm in network with Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield through Berry Street, which verifies your benefits before your first appointment so there are no surprises. Most of my clients pay $0 out of pocket, and many have access to unlimited nutrition visits. This applies in every state I serve, including here in Colorado, where I'm based in Denver.
If your plan doesn't cover nutrition counseling, or you'd prefer not to use insurance, I offer straightforward cash rates: $150 for the initial 90 minute visit and $100 for each follow up appointment.
What to expect with additional costs: If we decide functional lab testing (like DUTCH or GI-MAP) or professional grade supplements are right for your plan, those are paid out of pocket. I'll always review the costs with you before ordering anything. You can book through Berry Street using the "See if you're covered" button, or contact me directly. -
Look for someone with real clinical credentials, not just a certificate from a weekend course. A Registered Dietitian (RD) has completed a supervised practice program and passed a national board exam, which means they're trained to interpret labs, understand drug-nutrient interactions, and work safely alongside your medical care. Beyond that, look for someone who specializes specifically in perimenopause and menopause, not general wellness. Hormonal transitions have their own physiology, and a specialist will know how insulin resistance, gut health, and micronutrient status shift during this time in ways a generalist may not.
-
"Nutritionist" isn't a protected title in most states. Anyone can call themselves one, regardless of training. "Registered Dietitian" (RD) is a legally protected credential that requires a nutrition degree, a supervised practice program, and a national board exam. Registered Dietitians are also the only nutrition professionals recognized to bill insurance directly for medical nutrition therapy. When you're navigating something as complex as hormonal shifts, that clinical training matters — it's the difference between general advice and a plan built around your actual labs and physiology.

Your initial session is 90 minutes by secure video, enough time to actually understand your story. We review your health history, symptoms like weight changes, fatigue, brain fog, or sleep disruption, any recent labs, and your goals in depth. No rushing, no shortcuts. By the end, you'll have a clear picture of what's driving your symptoms and a plan for what we address together.
-
Yes. Blood sugar and insulin resistance often shift during perimenopause, sometimes before glucose or A1c look abnormal. I review your existing labs, recommend markers like fasting insulin when helpful, and build a nutrition plan to support steady blood sugar, all through virtual visits.
-
Yes. Many of my clients are in perimenopause or menopause and taking a GLP-1. These medications can be a powerful tool, but they make it easy to undereat, especially protein, which puts your muscle and bone at risk at a time when estrogen is already declining. I help you hit your protein goals, manage side effects, track body composition, and build habits that protect your results long term, whether you stay on the medication or eventually come off. Read more about GLP-1s in perimenopause.

Prescribing HRT is your physician's domain; optimizing how your body metabolizes, absorbs, and thrives on those hormones is mine. Hormones do not work in a vacuum. To get the full benefits of HRT, your body requires:
Efficient Estrogen Metabolism: Your gut microbiome contains a specific network of microbes (the estrobolome) that produces enzymes like beta-glucuronidase. These enzymes dictate whether your body properly recycles active estrogen or flushes it out. Through Functional Microbiome Mapping, we ensure your gut environment supports—rather than hinders—your hormone therapy.
Targeted Anabolic Support: As estrogen levels shift in perimenopause and menopause, your body becomes less efficient at building and maintaining lean muscle mass. We optimize your protein intake and timing to support muscle preservation, strength, and resting metabolic rate.
Metabolic & Glycemic Balance: Midlife hormonal shifts can increase insulin resistance. We implement strategic, therapeutic fiber protocols and glycemic balancing to stabilize energy, support metabolic health, and prevent stubborn weight shifts.
Comprehensive Diagnostic Insights: By pairing functional lab interpretation and DUTCH hormone profiling with deep-dive dietary recalls, cellular hydration, and body composition tracking, we address the root causes of lingering symptoms.
While your doctor manages your prescription, functional nutrition provides the high-touch metabolic, gut, and dietary framework needed to maximize your results and protect your long-term vitality.
