High Protein Greek Yogurt Breakfast Bowl

31g protein, 12g fiber, 5 minutes

Most breakfasts in perimenopause are accidentally low in protein. Toast, oatmeal, a granola bar. Fine foods, but they leave you hungry by 10am and do very little for your muscle.

This Greek yogurt breakfast bowl takes five minutes and hits both targets in my 30/30 Framework: 30 grams of protein per meal and a real start on 30 grams of fiber for the day.

Greek yogurt bowl topped with raspberries, chia seeds, flax, and hemp hearts.

Why a high protein and high fiber breakfast matters in perimenopause

As estrogen declines, muscle becomes less responsive to protein. Plainly speaking that just means that we need to lift more weights and eat more protein to get the same results. Getting about 30 grams in one meal is the threshold research supports for actually triggering muscle repair.

The fiber matters too. Chia, flax, and raspberries slow digestion, which keeps blood sugar steadier and keeps you full through the morning. Your gut bacteria will appreciate it as well.

Ingredients (1 bowl)

1 cup plain nonfat or 2% Greek yogurt
3/4 cup raspberries (fresh or frozen)
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
1 tablespoon hemp hearts
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Optional: 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup

How to make it

  1. Stir the cinnamon into the yogurt.

  2. Top with raspberries, chia, flax, and hemp hearts.

  3. Drizzle with honey if you like a little sweetness.

That's it. If you use frozen raspberries, let the bowl sit for five minutes or zap in the microwave and they'll soften into a quick jammy layer over the high protein Greek yogurt.

Having a high protein breakfast ready to go is half the battle on busy mornings.

Meal prep five small jars on Sunday with the high fiber gut friendly chia, flax, and hemp already measured. In the morning, add yogurt and berries and go.

Check your yogurt label. Brands vary, and you want about 22 to 24 grams of protein per cup. If yours is lower, add a scoop of unflavored or vanilla protein powder. My favorite is Levels Grass Fed Whey Protein Powder. I like whey because it's rich in leucine, the amino acid that kick starts muscle repair. Which is what we want!
